Eventing is an english equestrian sport with deep military roots which tests a horse and rider’s precision, athleticism and stamina through three distinct tests: Dressage, Cross Country, and Show Jumping.
In Dressage, a combination must move gracefully and precisely through a predetermined pattern “on the flat” (no jumping). In Cross Country, horse and rider must quickly cover open ground in the field, jumping solid obstacles and crossing water through natural and varied terrain. In the final phase of Show Jumping, pairs must navigate a course of delicate and bright jumps in an arena, leaving the poles up or incurring penalties. The lowest score wins.
